The Centre for Development and the Environment, Senter for Utvikling og Miljø (SUM), is primarily a research institution. It was established by the University of Oslo in 1990 in response to the report of the Brundtland Commission: Our Common Future.
CMI is an independent, non-profit research institution working on issues of development and human rights in the South. The geographical focus is on Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
The Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI) is an independent foundation engaged in research on international environmental, energy, and resource-management politics. The research is multi-disciplinary, with main emphasis on political science.
The mission of the Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt, FFI (Norwegian Defence Research Establishment) is to conduct research and development on behalf of the Norwegian Armed Forces and provide expert advice to defence political and military leaders
With more than 40 years of experience, NUPI is one of Norway's leading independent centres for research and information within the fields of international relations and international economics.
Founded in 1959, PRIO was one of the world's first centres of peace research. We are Norway's only peace research centre. The foundation of this independent institute and its early influence were instrumental in promulgating the idea of peace research.
